Mr. Slate has such command of the courtroom, he ran circles around my ex's attorney - who seemed flustered at times - which was entertaining to watch. I will definitely recommend him to anyone I know needing a divorce or family law lawyer in the future.
My new counsel has been on my case for a little over a month and my divorce will be finalized in less then a month. I spent more money again but at least, the divorce is finalized! Oh and i got the amount i wanted in child support too! Crazy! Smh
Please remember to hit the like button if my review helped you in anyway.
I asked if they offered free consultations and they advised me that they did not, so I asked how much was the retainer to hire them, I was then informed that I would hove to pay for a consultation to get a qoute for a retainer ?!?!?!
SERIOUSLY ?!?!?! Are these people hurting for money that bad that they charge you to tell you how much they are going to charge you !?!?!
Like I said, I called SEVERAL attorneys this morning (over 15) and only these people chose to act in this manner.
I highly advise to avoid these money hungry bottom feeders.
I don't feel the mediation was handled well. My ex and his attorney were not prepared and my ex was just too emotional to deal with making a decision under the pressure the attorneys were putting on him. My ex ended up walking out on the negotiations and so later I basically sat my ex down and we hashed out the mediated settlement ourselves. In hindsight I recommend trying to get an agreement with your ex on your own before going to mediation to take the pressure off.
I just wish my attorney had reviewed the agreement closer before sending it to the judge. We wasted two months fixing one provision that the attorney had basically knew wouldn't pass muster with the judge. At one point I really felt like I was never going to be granted my divorce. This is my only contention....this part should have been handled with more care.
Otherwise, Mr. Slate did just what he said he would. He is smart and tough. I appreciate his work.....but let me say this Ryann is the best!
We were initially referred to Dennis because there were both civil and criminal components to our case. Dennis Slate is able to handle both. Our case spanned over 5 years. I don’t know if that is typical or not, but I do know that we were partially at fault for waiting too long to go on the offensive. (This was when we chose to hire Dennis.) The other reason it took so long was that we had the misfortune of having an opponent with newly acquired resources who was able to delay, delay, delay by outspending us 3-1.
Dennis will be forthright with you about where you stand, what you can expect and what you may have already done that could hurt your prospects in the family court system. He’s nobody’s fool and is wise to the legal and psychological maneuvers a parent set on alienation will pull. Time is not your friend in family law matters. Every day that you’re away from your children is a day you don’t get back, no matter who ultimately “wins”.
It has taken a long time to think about what to write in this review. I write reviews all the time – hotels, shopping, etc. Your relationship with your lawyer is more intimate and longer than you’ll expect. Dennis will be your voice and your representative in what is a very complex system.
It’s impossible to convey in an online review the depth of our gratitude to Dennis Slate and his entire firm for the manner in which they handled our case. I don’t think our situation was typical, as our case was so long. That’s a long time to be working with an attorney, in territory that you’re unfamiliar with. You could not choose a better partner.
I found myself the target of a false CPS allegation and knew I needed a lawyer to help me clear my name and ensure my relationship with my children. I went for a consultation with Ms Dannielle Simms and within five minutes of sitting down with her, I was sure she was THE ONE. Her vast knowledge of the CPS process helped me to feel at ease. She told me like it is, instead of what she thought I wanted to hear and I greatly appreciated that. Ultimately, the allegations were Ruled Out and Ms Simms was able to get my “Role Removed”, meaning I am once again a complete stranger to CPS.
During the whole CPS process I also had to retain her to represent me in a frivolous Modification brought against me. Again, no promises were made, only complete honesty about the situation. Ms Simms was extremely aggressive and gave me specific instructions on what she needed from me of which I did my best to do. Thanks to her extensive Family Law knowledge and pure professionalism the tables were turned and I was able to right the wrongs my original Divorce Lawyer made during my divorce several years ago.
From the minute I walked through the door for the first time I was treated with nothing but the utmost respect. Everyone I encountered at this firm is amazing and they do their jobs very, very well.
If you’re looking for a lawyer who will pamper you and blow smoke up your ass you might want to go elsewhere. If you’re looking for a lawyer that’s 50 percent Pitbull, 50 percent genius and 1000 percent BADASS then look no further, Ms Dannielle Simms and the whole crew at this firm have you covered.
THANKS DANNIELLE! YOU’RE A ROCKSTAR!
Dennis Slate… Personable? Not so much. Knows family, the law, the system, and all other related entities? Absolutely. Dennis is all business with an expertise and tenacity that were essential to the successful outcome of our case. After over 2 years of battling seemingly ceaseless obstacles, we obtained sole managing conservatorship of our granddaughters, placing them under one roof despite incredible circumstances that had once separated them.
To Dennis and his entire staff (especially the tireless Ryann Tighe – Paralegal of the Year in our book), our family will be forever indebted.
My husband, who was working overseas, knew I was in good hands with Danielle and her team. They were very responsive to my questions and concerns. She kept me up to date with the case and didn’t leave me in the dark like my previous attorney. The team was very knowledgeable and well organized.
I highly recommend Dannielle Simms and her team.
They don't call you to confirm your appointment the day before. They don't email you to confirm the appointment date. They don't contact you if you miss an appointment. I asked and she said they just make a note that you didn't show up. Wow. Again I should have just left then.
The receptionist comes over to me and tells me I have to reschedule because the lawyer I chose to see, Ms. Simms, does not take client visits on Wednesdays. I asked, Why would you take my money then? She stated that was her mistake. I asked how we could fix it since the only day during the week I am available is Wednesday. She said she didn't know. Then another lawyer in their firm said she would speak with me about my case for the $75, even though she normally charges more. I said Okay.
Her name was Shailey Gupta-Brietzke. She looked over my documents that I brought in. My husband and I have been separated for over 7 years. We have 1 daughter together and no property or shared debts what so ever. I just need a divorce and custody of my child since he has little or nothing to do with her anyway and is a drug addict and has been to jail several times. Shailey told me I was just "throwing out my trump cards" and no judge that she knew of would grant me sole custody. She did not ask any additional questions about my ex. She gave me a best case scenario that He would rights to every summer, spring, traditional joint custody. Not what I wanted to hear, but I do understand sometimes these things are true and hard to swallow. She said because we already had a custody order in place from when we agreed on child support in 2011 we would have to do the divorce and modification of the visitation separately and that would take 2 retainer fees! Which for the least expensive lawyer there would be $6000. I was in tears my this point. I asked if she could check our current custody arrangement to see the exact wording of what we had in place now. Shailey acted put out that she had to go into another room and "get her laptop to pull this up" even though she had never seen a custody order that was not the joint standard "in my 9 years of practice" Just like a doctor should have good bedside manner with their patient, a lawyer dealing in family law should have the same candor in dealing with highly sensitive cases. I can tell you Shailey does not. She could have cared less that I paid $75 and made me feel like I inconvenienced her to go look up the details of my case! Then, she saw that the order we had in place WAS indeed different than what she was used to seeing! Well I'm glad I could show you something new in your 9 years of practice today! She talked fast seemed in a rush to get me out of there from the minute I sat down. I would not recommend this lawyer nor can I recommend anyone else there after how I was treated, but I did get some possibly useful info about my case, although it took some begging, tears, and frustration to get there.
Our son was medically kidnapped in May and Dennis was able to prove to the court there was no-evidence for abuse allegations. Dennis knows what motions to file, how the system works, how to work with CPS, Child Advocates and Ad Lietum Attorneys. He lives your case to defend it to the best of his ability. His office is a well-oiled machine, always returning phone calls & emails immediately and treating you with utmost courtesy. Dennis and his team work diligently to keep your attorney fees low. When looking for an attorney to entrust with getting your child back from CPS - Dennis Slate is your guy.
Now, Dannielle Simms, wow... Just wow... From our very first meeting she was able to take an emotional subject (my divorce), give comfort, listen, and clearly lay out what I could expect from having her, Dannielle, representing me. There were many times during the court appearances that she correctly explained the temperament of the judge and how the judge would rule. She kept me calm and let me know each step of the process.
When I had my "red lines" (there were certain things I was not willing to give up) Dannielle was able to put it into legal language that was then granted by the court or the apposing counsel got my ex-wife to agree. I could not have been able to do this without Dannielle's legal expertise.
When needed, Dannielle was aggressive in protecting my interest. There was never a time when I felt she was not doing everything legally possible on my behalf.
I have even recommend Danielle's services to other friends that need good legal council.
I would never wish that anyone would need Ms. Simms' legal services, but if anyone does, they would not be wrong in choosing a well qualified and competent attorney that is Dannielle Simms.
As soon as I hired Dennis and his team, they immediately got to work on my case. They filed the appropriate paperwork and had my ex-wife served with an order to appear at a temporary orders hearing very quickly. I worked with Shailey Gupta-Brietzke to line out every item that would be modified in my custody order. When my ex-wife saw that I’d hired Dennis Slate she was so intimidated that she agreed to officially change our daughters’ schedule back to half-time, while also forfeiting primary conservatorship. Shailey and Dennis were aggressive with the other side and worked diligently on my case. Both Dennis and Shailey’s professionalism and expert knowledge in family law helped this process go as smoothly as possible. Every request I made was granted. My daughters will finally have the stability they need now that they will attend the schools zoned to my home instead of having to worry that they’ll be ripped away every time their mom moves (which has averaged about once a year over the last 5-6 years). The results my family and I received from working with Dennis Slate and Shailey Gupta-Brieztke were better than I thought possible.
Every staff member at Dennis Slate’s law firm was knowledgeable, responsive, and friendly. I enjoyed working with each one of them. Ryann Tighe, the legal assistant, helped me quickly anytime I contacted her. Dalia Benitez, the legal secretary, was very helpful any time I called the office too. It was great to have such a fantastic legal team to work with and not having to worry about being billed for anything unreasonable made it even better! If I am forced to litigate again, I will absolutely be using Dennis Slate and his team. They are amazing!

I came to Mr. Dennis Slate with a challenge that seemed impossible. Mr. Slate asked several questions and educated me on the law. After our conversation Mr. Slate and Ms. Dannielle Simms went into action. It was a relief to be able to place my situation in capable hands. Ms. Simms was always available to answer my questions and provide updates on my case. Her caring and reassurances were greatly appreciated in my times of concern. At trial time I sat back and let Mr. Slate work the law. It was a nothing less than amazing to watch Mr. Slate in action. To say it went well is an understatement. Mr. Slate used his knowledge of the law to expose the truth to the court. I walked out of the courthouse with a huge smile on my face.
I would also like to acknowledge the helpfulness of Ms. Dalia Benitez. Ms. Benitez was always there to answer questions, receive documents, and forward messages.
I've used him twice. He was highly recommend to me.
One of the attributes I admire and respect about Mr. Slate, is that he will be honest with you up front in the consultant and during your process, what he can and can't do according to the courts etc... He definitely knows the system as well as the CPS system. My child had a terrible experience with her father. She had to get on the stand and testify. Dennis Slate was gentle with questions for her, but straight to point. She is a very reserved child and showed little emotions as that's just her personality in a public situation. Unfortunately, being that she us intelligent and reserved, the judge was unsure how to take that her behavior was typical of a child that experienced what she did. However, Dennis Slate and his team still found a solution as my childs safety is #1 priority to them. She now has the choice to go or not go to visitation with her biological father. Her safety is priceless. I can't thank Mr. Slate and his team enough.
Everyone at his firm that worked on my case was more than devoted. They all worked diligently, kept me posted constantly (which is hard to find) and handled all aspects professionally and with care.
I would recommend The Slate Law Firm to anyone that has the unfortunate circumstances of divorce and custody issues. My childs wellfair was defended through the entire process. Don't waist your time looking for anyone else.
As complicated and sensitive as my case was, Dennis Slate and his team fought hard for the best outcome for my child.
You're not alone. This team will be there with you through eveverything.
Six months after our CPS case was closed, I was again in need of help. I retained Mr. Slate to modify the visitation order of the parents of my grandchild, due to their bad choices and lifestyle. On Dec. 9, 2015 the judge granted the order to modify in the best interest of the child. My grandchild is a safe and happy 3 year old,
It has been a 2 1/2 year journey for us and Dennis Slate has been there for us through it all the way. I can say without a doubt that if you are seeking legal representation then Mr. Slate is the attorney you want and need. He is straight up with you and will tell you exactly what he can or cannot do for you. He is very compassionate about his cases. He is the utmost professional in and out of the the courtroom and he is a BEAR when dealing with opposing counsel.
Mr. Slate's staff is very friendly and helpful with all your needs and questions, especially Ryann. Ryann is the best and she went above and beyond to answer all my questions and concerns. She was there for me and all the craziness that went with my case. I cannot say enough about her except that she was awesome.
Thank you Dennis Slate and all you have done so that we can now move forward with our lives. I will never forget your dedication, kindness and support.
These last couple of months has been very stressful for my husband and I, but I thank God we had Attorney Slate and not a rip-off attorney that just took our money. Attorney Slate and his staff were very compassionate, trustworthy and were there any time we needed them for guidance, advice, etc...
In my honest opinion, I feel that this would have been a “Mission Impossible” without Attorney Slate by our side!! I would trust him with my life and have recommended him to just about everyone that inquires about an attorney.
Attorney Slate is no joke and is a BEAST in the courtroom, so if you need legal representation hire Attorney Slate, trust me you will not be disappointed and you will thank me in the end!! My husband and I couldn’t be happier, thanks again Attorney Slate and all of your staff!!!
He was very knowledgeable, very well prepared.
My business interests were well protected.
