I hired David Schachter to represent me in my divorce action 4 years into my case. I wish I had known to go to him from the start. This divorce case was long and a bit more complicated because I had to work outside of the country. In the 4 years of the case before I hired David my prior attorney accomplished nothing. I was afraid that husbands and fathers could never get justice. I was mistaken. You just need the best attorney, and in my opinion that is David. Mr. Schachter knows his stuff. He is an excellent strategist. He is detailed and prepared for every scenario. Watching him in court was impressive to say the least. Everyone, including the Judge, were clear that Mr. Schachter had done a tremendous job. The Court Clerk even asked him for a card for a family member that she wanted to hire him after seeing his courtroom performance. I even remarked to David during a break in the proceedings that he was doing such an excellent job destroying my wife’s case and her attorney that I actually felt bad for my wife-for a minute. My advice: You want Mr. Schachter on your side and you definitely do not want to risk the chance that he could represent your spouse. I am a very satisfied client. Oh, and as for husbands and fathers and how they fare in a divorce: Mr. Schachter secured me joint physical custody of my daughter, I have no further financial obligation to my ex, I got to keep most of my retirement, and I got the house that had been temporarily awarded to my ex for the first few years of the divorce before David took over. I even get to keep all of the equity that I paid into the house throughout this case and my ex gets none of it, which I understand is quite unusual. I was more than pleased with the result. They say nobody wins in a divorce. Usually that may be true and I do feel bad that my daughter had to experience this, but I am positive I won this case with Mr. Schachter’s superb representation. I hope I never need to hire a family law attorney again, but if I do need one I know that I will hire David.

David and his office did an outstanding job. He offered suggestions of meeting times, which fit into my schedule, enabling me to meet with him and not have to take time off from my job, thus minimizing the effects on my civilian job. David is a top-rate Savannah attorney. He knows the law, he knows all the issues that may arise, and he knows how to win cases. You couldn't be in better hands in that regard. Was running an hour late, which stuff happens so that was fine. Thought we came up with a clear plan. Left. Never heard back. Waited about two weeks, called and left message with the front desk. Never heard back. Waited another week, called again. Never heard back. Needless to say we found someone else. Not sure where the raving reviews came from? We didn’t even have a complicated case. Being a father left shafted by previous attorneys and living in backwoods Ga that has been predominately for the woman, I was losing hope of being an active father to my kids. I hired Mr. Schachter in October of 2018 to regain custody of my 6 year old son. I hired another attorney 5 months beforehand and needless to say that turned out to be a disaster. There is no other way to put this: Mr. David Schachter is simply the best divorce attorney around. Two years into my divorce case it became obvious that I needed a new attorney. By the end of the case, my divorce actually lasted almost 5 years because of my ridiculous, narcissistic husband, his antics, and my husband’s second attorney who took ludicrous positions and did not follow the law. Mr. Schachter took care of their games, he took them to task in court, and he got me a spectacular result that exceeded my expectations. David focuses on strategy quite a bit. I know understand why patience is so necessary in this process. Like others, I wanted everything to be over right away. If that had happened in my case, I would now be a pauper. I admit that my husband wore me down to the point where I had a complete breakdown towards the end of the case. I also lost patience too many times during the process. David picked me up when I needed it most, and he set me straight whenever I began to fall apart. People need to understand that courts can take a long time. David frequently tried to explain to me that it took a long time for my husband and I to create this mess, and that I had to understand that it can take awhile to fix problems that took so long to create. Quick results are rarely good results. If you are going through a contested divorce and you lack patience or an attorney that you believe in and can reassure you when you lose hope, you might as well throw in the towel. At one point my husband wore me down so much and convinced me that we had nothing left. I believed him and almost agreed to walk away with nothing. I literally lost my bearings and needed medical intervention. I was at my lowest point. I did not trust anyone a that point, not even my loved ones and I even questioned whether David was on my side. My husband had somehow played mind games with me and manipulated me into thinking that he was my only friend. He tried to take advantage of me when I was at my lowest point, and he was the one that got me so low. Most attorneys would have abandoned me at that point. Mr. Schachter did not. David is patient when necessary, and he was reassuring when I needed it most. David was supposed to be out of town with his family when I completely fell apart. Instead of leaving town when he was supposed to, Mr. Schachter made a house call with others that truly cared about me. He got me the help I needed to continue, picked me up when I was down, and gave me the strength to continue when I needed it most. By the time we finally got to court after 5 years, this process had cost me a fortune and I did not know whether I would walk away with anything. As soon as Mr. Schachter got started in Court when the trial began all of my concerns washed away. David had worked hard and he knows what he is doing. He was spectacular in court. It was impressive to watch him utilize his skills. My best friend who came to the trial for support and is herself divorced told David that she wished she had him when she was going through her own divorce. She watched the whole thing and she said he was amazing. Mr. Schachter exposed my husband for the moron he is, and he outdid my husband’s attorney in every way. The result: I walked away with more than I ever hoped to get or believed possible. I was awarded alimony for many years (though my husband tried to show that he had nothing), a big monetary interest in my husband’s business (even though my husband claimed it was worth nothing while fudging the books, which David fully exposed), and I received so much more. I got a fair and just result though I knew that that rarely occurs. I went from being convinced that I would be living in a cardboard box on the street to someone who is now confident with a secure future. I was impressed by David’s attention to detail. This is a review for Mr. Schachter and his law firm, The Schachter Law Firm, LLC. It is to inform other disabled veterans about my experience I have been dealing with from David and his team. During my initial call to the office I gave them my credit card number after they told me they would not charge it if things do not work out. People living on fixed incomes can understand the importance of this concept when making appointments for consultations. Besides their PERFECT ONLINE REVIEWS, this was the reason I agreed to have a consult with David, so that I am not out here wasting time and money on firms that do not have the ability to represent disabled veterans properly. A common theme in today's family court system. After the office made the appointment I told them to inform the team that I am a disabled veteran that understands his rights. I made sure they wrote this information down in my case notes. A week later when I called David for the consult I was able to tell very early on that his firm was not interested in the well being of my child, they didn't even care to ask. They only wanted to know if I was willing to allow a court to garnish my VA benefits, which the Supreme Court has ruled a crime. David's staff became very agitated on the phone when I confronted them with this fact, as he kept saying over and over again that I was wrong. As a potential client, I then requested that they speak with the team of Veteran advocacy lawyers who fought in the Supreme Court over this issue. I have been in contact with these military lawyers for the past year now, and they are more than willing to speak with family court lawyers to help guide them in this sensitive matter. They said no. I realized right then that David's firm had no intention of learning the proper rules and procedures for veteran benefits. The call ended immediately after that. A complete waste of my time, as other disabled veterans would understand. A week later when I found out they charged me the $250 for our short phone conversation, I called David's office to rectify the situation. They hung up on me after I revealed my name. And now that I'm writing reviews about my experiences David is calling me a menace and sending private messages threatening to sue me. I have gone to great lengths to give them every opportunity to handle this with professionalism and understanding, only to be harassed and threatened with lawsuits. If you are a disabled veteran I would recommend you not visit David's website, or call his office.

After a brutal, contentious divorce, I was left with barely any visitation of my daughter and what may have been the world's worst parenting plan.
