Matt Watson is Rude, arrogant, and all about money. Please take your business elsewhere. He asked me for a 5000 retainer up front. I Had to ask him 5 or so times for a receipt. As the 5000 was paid in cash. He Wrote two letters before asking me for another 5000. The only things we talked about were him needing more money. Never about the case. I asked about a couple items on a bill. He blew up on me and told me to leave his office. I have had lawyers in the past so I know the jig, but he is out there and unethical. I never leave reviews, even after poor service. But this was so bad I thought I had to say something.
Hope this helps, Luke.

My wife and I had a terrible experience with Matt Watson. We hired him to represent us to settle a dispute and come up with a fair settlement with a so called contractor that was charging $24k for a $6k plumbing job. We trusted Matt to look out for our best interest, but quickly realized that him and his staff were very unprofessional. They drafted letters to the opposing party which included misspellings and unclear language, and even included the incorrect names in the case. They were careless and unprofessional. Several times we were the ones that had to make the corrections on their behalf by proofreading the letters and having them correct them. It was embarrassing to have them send the so called legal documents to the opposing attorney. Matt steered us towards a settlement with contractor, without first doing any research at all. A few weeks after our settlement, we found out from the state that the “contractor” didn’t even have an active license and was forbidden from doing any business in the state of New Mexico. Why in the world did our attorney, Matt, fail to perform his due diligence and find out these crucial facts before advising a settlement?! I believe we paid Matt close to $4k in fees plus approximately $8k to contractor who didn’t even deserve a dime. He was illegally representing himself as a licensed contractor. In addition, Matt didn’t even file the settlement documents, and our title company had to file them at a later date. We’ve sent Matt emails letting him know the situation and asking him for a resolution since he did not do his job or properly represent us. Neither him or his office have responded to our emails and they have just ignored us. Not good business practice at all. It’s sad that he’s taking advantage of hard working clients who place their trust in him. We will be filing a formal complaint.

Just want to put Las Cruces and All of New Mexico on notice. Never hire, speak, or give your money to this attorney, Matt G. Watson and/or The Watson Smith Law Firm. Matt G. Watson is a Crook and a Scam Artist. We hired him to defend us in a land dispute and he asked for $2,000 down as a retainage, and within days after Mr. Watson found out who the opposing attorney was, he got scared and asked for another $3,000, which came to a total of $5,000. After paying the $5,000 he tried asking for another $3,000 but Thankfully he was only able to get $5,000 out of us and not $8,000 like he tried to do! He wrote two emails to the opposing attorney and dropped out case two days before our court hearing through a text message. How unprofessional is that?! No phone call, no meeting in person, just a text saying “I cannot represent you in your case” I asked for a full refund for our case since he didn't do nothing for us and never even entered his appearance as my attorney through the court system. Mr. Watson did not give me a receipt, nor did he give me a contract as I had asked for. He never returned us our money for our case! He Scammed us by keeping our $5,000! All this happened within two weeks of meeting Mr. Watson! We really don't want this to happen to anybody else! We are currently reporting him to The Bar Association of Attorneys! Please watch out!! Matthew G. Watson is a crook and a fake and doesn't even know what he's doing or talking about! Don't let it happen to you! Las Cruces please pass the word around!! Now I had to rate my experience with choosing stars so I had to choose one, but in reality it should be -5 Stars!
