They switched lawyers midway through and failed to acknowledge it. They then sent me 7 or so emails back and forth about what had already been accomplished in the first half. It threw off the opposing lawyer (not in a good way). Then proceeded to charge me for the failures of the attorney who took over. They overcharge and fail you. No matter how proactive you are. Find another attorney.

My minimal experience (about 10 days) with Goldberg Jones, specifically with Zephyr Hill and Phil Coleman, had been horrible and costly.

Goldberg Jones Website States:

“Goldberg Jones is a local office of San Diego divorce attorneys serving all of San Diego County. The firm also has offices in Washington and Oregon. We focus our representation on husbands’ and fathers’ rights”.

I retained this firm to appear with me at an RFO hearing. Phil Coleman was my attorney. During this hearing, opposing counsel “ASKED” the presiding Judge to allow his client to obtain a passport for our child.

At no time pre RFO hearing did the petitioner ask me to obtain a passport, nor did she or her attorney file any motions / pleadings to discuss the passport.

Without blinking an eye, the presiding Judge ordered; “the court orders the parties to cooperate to obtain a passport for the child. If there is an impasse, Mother shall have sole legal custody for the purposes of obtaining a passport only”.

At the time of this hearing and still till this day, me and the petitioner share Joint Legal Custody of our child. Additionally, there was evidence that the Petitioner may be a flight risk, and, then there are the law(s) that prevent one of the parties from just obtaining a passport, such as the Two Parent Consent Law.

Not only did the presiding Judge know this law, but so did Phil Coleman and instead of Objecting to the Judges abuse of authority and blatant violation of my rights, he sat there like a coward and did nothing.

The Judges abuse of authority and violation of my rights, cost me thousands and thousands of dollars, before she admitted that she didn’t have the authority to make such an order and then vacated it. All this could have been avoided had Phil objected.

Phil Coleman has more than 20 years of experience, so, why do you think he just sat there and didn’t object and invoke the Two Parent Consent Law?

There are other examples of Phil’s failures, and along with the answer to the above question, they will be addressed on October 22, 2019 in Dept. C-63 @ 1:00 pm located at 330 West Broadway San Diego, CA 92101.

Went in for a child support consultation. Zephyr was very helpful in helping me figure out what to expect at my upcoming trial and helped me figure out what I needed to do to get the proper paperwork filled out.

Don't take the 95 dollars interview. Basically you pay for the law firm pitch.. I went looking for help with my mediation process in a custody case, but he only talked about my different reasons why I am in need of help and how good they are for me, which I believe. they seem knowledgeable and with experience. But I most certainly didn't need to spend my last 100 bucks in pay advertising. I went to my mediation and I was destroyed by the other party. Nothing said in the 95 dollars interview with the firm was of any help whatsoever, only obvious conclusions, and yet i told him before hand that I need help with my mediation on Friday. Save your money for the real deal, avoid the 95 dollars interview. If you can afford them, just hire them.
Edit: I was not told 95 dollars would give me 1 hr time.

Not "the go getter" type of lawyers that's for sure. I feel like I have to prompt my lawyer for everything or nothing will get done And I always find mistakes and misspelled words on their forms. I have to proof read everything these guys do. Their retainer fee is reasonable but in the end you end up paying way more for them they nickle and dime you for everything and anything at the rate of $295.00 an hour.

I am currently looking for an attorney to help me with my separation and I just spoke to another firm that happily answered all my questions and then some, I was on the phone with them for about 30 minutes. I called Goldberg and was asked how long I've been married for and if I had children then for $95 I was told I can sit with an attorney for an hour. I said I unfortunately can't afford that at this time and then I was told verbatim, "if you can't afford $95 there's no way you're going to be able to afford a lawyer because you need to be prepared to pay thousands of dollars for our time." For someone who is going through such a painful and difficult time in their life, I would hope this firm would approach and see their potential clients with sympathy rather than as dollar signs. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Mr. Richard Kolek at Goldberg Jones has helped me tremendously over the past 8 years. From the early negotiation of the divorce to the later adjustments in custody, Richard has been instrumental in helping me discern what things were important and which were not.

I had no experience with divorce before starting the process, and it was easy to get lost in the details of my situation. Richard listened to my goals and helped to tailor a plan for us to achieve those goals. He was fantastic at letting me know that although x, y and z seemed important to me, a, b and c were actually the important issues that were going to help me achieve what I wanted.

Divorce is not fair. Divorce is especially not fair to fathers. Richard has a wealth of experience and was able to identify the best route to a favorable settlement. One of the key values Richard brings to the table is that he is not emotionally invested in a case and can quickly pick out the best solution to a problem.

Awful. Brian Ruiz was a nice enough guy but he was completely out of touch. Wrong information and advice that cost us tons of money and support payments that were not necessary. Outmaneuvered at every turn by the other attorney. Out of touch and doesn't answer emails, phone calls. The only thing we every got from him were bills. Had to ask him numerous times and wait over a month to get anything done - even as simple as sending a copy over of something. When went to look for new council - found out about a court date coming up in less than a month that he did not tell us about. Completely disappointed and disgusted at lack of care and accountability.

My husband and I worked with Kimberly McKeag to sort through issues with past child support. Kimberly was very helpful, able to digest the audits and statements quickly, knowledgeable and resourceful in digging into Dept. Child Support Svcs regulations and guidelines. She was able to identify potential avenues to resolve some conflicts and helped us find a path forward that was comfortable for us. AND she did so without dragging out the process. i was unhappy with my very expensive divorce attorney so i met with Zephyr Hill to discuss switching attorneys. Zephyr's a real nice guy. He reviewed my case, we discussed, and he recommended one of his attorneys at Goldberg to me. Goldberg's rates are great. i have paid almost 2x as much. within a day or two of meeting with Zephyr, my existing counsel made some considerable progress, perhaps sensing that i was about to fire her, and so i didn't end up hiring Goldberg, but based on my experience, i think the reader of this review should seriously consider it.

My attorney at Goldberg Jones was Andrew Mitchel. Mr. Mitchel was very helpful in getting a long drawn out custody battle settled with fairness towards the father. Over a three year period, my ex wife used every means possible to settle unfairly for custody of our two youngest children. She forum shopped in our home state of record prior to our arrival in San Diego. Then six continuances by her aggressive lawyer over 18 months in a Department where the judge regularly stated that he was a “conservative” judge (code for kids belong with mom). All of this followed by a complete waste of time and money using a mediator to hash out a marital settlement agreement that was ultimately non-enforceable for my ex.

Still looking for some fairness on my parental rights, I found the firm of Goldberg Jones. Mr. Mitchel was able to stop my ex from toggling back and forth between the mediator’s MSA and the original court settlement for custody and vacation time. Under Mr. Mitchel’s representation my custody was nearly doubled and my ex finally had to recognize my vacation time with the children. Despite the roadblocks by my ex and an overtly biased court I’m really glad I didn’t give up on finding a family law firm that advocates for father’s rights.

I would recommend the firm of Goldberg Jones to any father that was looking for a fair outcome to a custody dispute and divorce settlement.

Very comfortable environment. Initial consultation is with the managing partner and he answered all the questions I had.
