I had them prepare a trust with related other documents (living wills, power of attorney, etc.). They were thorough and reasonably priced. However, unless you can accept a standard cookie cutter trust, you need to be prepared with exactly how you want your assets distributed upon your death. I knew what I wanted. So after the initial version of the trust was ready, I had them make several changes until it was worded exactly the way I wanted. They made these changes promptly.

Shannon took what I saw as a potential nightmare (think 12 Angry Men without anything criminal or even close) and efficiently made sense of the situation. I thought all the I's were dotted, et al., but one minor missed detail can set you back months. It was a matter that needed just one document and a quick explanation of the 5 w's involved from Shannon.

Of course, she had to explain it to me at least twice with some stick figure crayon drawings thrown in before I understood and I have a graduate degree. The piece of paper doesn't make me smarter, it just means I can finish some things I start. That's why the saying a person who serves as their own lawyer has a fool for a client is true.
