Update, September 2018: This is a follow on review reference my review from late 2015/early 2016. After two and a half years of stable compliance with the divorce decree, in May of 2018, my ex wife decided to file official court documents with inaccurate and false statements in an attempt to take from me an additional $20,000.00 in child support payments over the next 26 months. Once again, I chose Susan Schauf to assist me with this matter. Susan immediately dredged through the case, the documents filed by my ex wife, and all the rules and quickly developed a plan. Susan secured a hearing date and my ex wife was forced to appear in court and answer some very tough questions in front of the judge. The result was a healthy judgement against my ex wife and in my favor! I have known my ex wife for over 34 years and was married to her for 29 years and this was the first time anyone was able to hold her accountable for her hurtful actions. Once again, I am extremely pleased with Susan Shauf's help! Further, I once again highly recommend her services as they are accurate, prompt, and effective.
Original Post from 2015/2016 Below:
I chose Susan Schauf after using an attorney who got me kicked out of my house at the beginning of my divorce. The attorney I started with bungled many things in addition to getting me kicked out of my house.
Susan is very "no nonsense" and focuses on the important issues which in my case was parenting time and spousal maintenance. My now ex-wife was demanding $4,500.00 for four years and $3,500.00 for life and was attempting to make it so I could see my daughter for only four days per month. It was apparent right away that Susan knew exactly how to deal with such demands and behavior. She guided me through the process and was able to defeat my ex-wife's demands of outrageous spousal maintenance and absurd parenting plan demands. Susan was also able to defeat the demand of my ex-wife's expectation that I pay for all of her legal bills in addition to mine.
Although not required, Susan even accompanied me to the mediation hearing. In hind sight, this event was paramount and Susan was able to see first hand that my now ex-wife and her attorney were making outrageous demands that Arizona law does not support.
This divorce was brutal and some friends and acquaintances of mine all say that it is the worst one of which they have ever heard. However, nothing ever rattled Susan. She's seemingly seen it all and has vast experience interacting with outrageous and unlawful demands and never waivered during the legal battle. It is my observation that she is intimately familiar with family law and can help especially those who are facing a difficult divorce to include all aspects of it.
I have already recommended a friend of mine to Susan as he was experiencing trouble getting positive results from the attorney he had hired before. It is my understanding that he is, in fact, using her services and he is now more confident of the outcome.
Further, my divorce started and finished in Pinal County jurisdiction which created a relatively long distance operation for Susan as she is in Pima County but she handled it without fail and filed all necessary records always in a timely fashion.
Susan is sharp, focused, and directly to the point. She is very busy but was always responsive to my needs. Finally, and for me this is MOST important, Susan Schauf responds promptly to questions and concerns I had. Whenever I sent a question via email, Susan responded in as little as minutes which is VERY important to me.
I recommend Susan Schauf for your family law matters needs as she did an outstanding job for me and created a very manageable outcome for me which are well within expectations.

Short review: I recieved judgment in my favor, so I'm very pleased with services provided.
Long review: I divorced approx 4 years ago, moved away from Arizona 3 years ago, and unfortunately was still dealing with financial issues with my ex. Ultimately he was not paying what he agreed to pay in our divorce decree, I had to pay those debts in full, and was looking at a post-decree enforcement so I could get half those debts paid back to me per our divorce decree. I contacted Susan and explained my situation, and she took the time educate me on the process, explained all of my options and her recommendations. She was easy to talk to, very personable, and accessible by both phone and email.
The day of court, she took her time with me that morning to go over all the evidence and prepare for the afternoon. She walked me through the process step by step, coached me through my testimony, all possible outcomes, and her experience with the appointed judge; I left feeling knowledgable, confident, and prepared going into court that afternoon.
Susan presented my case with expertise, professionalism, evidence (referencing statutes), and tenacity. She showed good judgment and integrity through the whole process.

What I enjoyed sbout Susan was that she was upfront and no nonsense. Sussn was always clear with me as far as what to expect and how things should go. Additionally she took the time to answer all of my questions and ensure that i understood everything considering that I had never dealt with a lawyer before in any capacity.
Susan did a great job of not putting up with any BS from the other attorney (who was a total A hole through the whole process). She was also very accommodating with my schedule due to my job.
I sincerely hope i am never in need of a divorce attorney again, but I would go to Susan again if that were ever the case.
My son received excellent representation during his lengthy and nasty divorce resulting in the absolute best outcome possible for him.

I had a wonderful experience with this lawyer. She took my case on short notice, and made plenty of time for me to review all the material before the court hearing. She's very experienced and knowledgable about Arizona family law. She didn't give any false hope, and she was able to visualize both sides of the situation and anticipate what would be brought up. I would seek her services again.

Susan has been amazing! I contracted her to look over a divorce settlement, and she was very meticulous. She made sure I knew what I was signing and was comfortable with the terms, but was also very knowledgeable and to the point of what was normal or what wasn't. I wish I'd found her sooner, and will be sure to use her again in the future if anything new arises. You won't be sorry with Susan!!!

Susan Schauf is the best lawyer I could possibly have hoped for. My divorce was extremely messy and complicated, causing me huge loads of stress. However, Susan's professionalism, confidence, and grace under pressure put my mind at ease. Several times throughout the process she went the extra mile to ensure to get the best result possible for me. One of the many things I appreciated about Susan was her responsiveness; she was always quick to get back to me, sent me documents within minutes of receiving them, and made time to meet with me when the situation called for it. She firmly squashed any attempts by the other side to be unreasonable or shady (and believe me they tried). Susan and Cheryl were my dream team, I do not believe I would have had a successful outcome with any other lawyer.

Outstanding attorney! Very straight forward and won’t put up with BS. If you want The best call Susan. Her advice and way she handles cases is beyond reproach. She has a huge passion for what she does, and when she is in attack mode I almost feel sorry for her adversary, it was great watching her work. Her assistant Cheryl is a dream to work with also she was always available and super friendly. Susan does a Great job from the first day to the last.

This woman is extremely abrasive and condescending. As a father trying to establish rights here in AZ I called and was talked to in a manner that said she doesn't respect potential clients, that or she's extremely biased against dad's. More than once she called me stupid and cursed at me during her fifteen minute tirade on the phone. Would not recommend for anything.

Smart and No Nonsense.
She knows what she is doing and goes about in a no-nonsense way. She knows the law and is fair to all involved. She does not waste anyone’s time. She knows how details can be missed and watches the courts to ensure nothing is missed. The opposing side in my divorce did nothing but stall, the courts were about to dismiss the case. She caught it. Without her I would have had to start from scratch. Saved many dollars. Opposing counsel and I were unaware it could be dismissed. Very pleased. Highly recommend.

Where to even begin? As a young father at 24 with a one year old little girl, I was doing my best to avoid courts with the mother of my daughter. Unfortunately, she wasn’t being fair with the parenting time nor decision making. I had to make something happen in order to be in her life. After asking around Tucson and calling multiple lawyers about my situation, a co-worker told me about Susan. I sat down with her and told her my story and what I hoped for. She was brutally honest with me, which I admire because she didn’t play games, it was straight business by the books of Law in everything I wanted to happen for me to be in my daughter’s life. Teaching me along the way why the Law is a certain way and explaining the outcomes of each choice I’ve made and as well as the possibilities of what could happen in court. I decided to hire her and she devoted herself, as well as her kind and caring assistant Cheryl, to fight for me to be in my daughter’s life. The days turned to weeks, the weeks to months and then court came. Let me tell you, you get what you pay for!!! Evie (my daughter) is turning three this year and she is with me fifty percent of the time. The mother also needs my consent for anything regarding my daughter. Being able to sleep by Evie and her hold me more than I hold her, is priceless. Thank you Susan. Thank you Cheryl. I will forever reccommend you and be grateful.

When I started the process of divorce, I originally used a different law firm. The firm did nothing with my case for 9 months and seemed to over bill. A friend gave me Susan's name and from day one I felt confident with her guidance. In just 2 1/2 months I am now divorced and thanks to Susan I got almost everything I wanted and more in the divorce. She steadily worked my case, despite the many challenges we had. I like to refer to her a dog after a bone! She never let up and continued to fight for what I was entitled to.

I signed up with attorney based on her assistant, Cheryl. Cheryl is a kind woman. I was extremely disappointed. My details don't matter to you -but I would not recommend hiring this attorney. I fully believe all the one star reviews and wished I had given them merit and never picked up the phone to call her home office. I had an extremely easy default divorce case and I had to force a court date. I got to proof my papers the evening before court. Several mistakes. Attorney had no interest in fighting for me nor was I given important details at the time of initial filing. I greatly overpaid with the flat fee - do not think you are getting a deal with the flat fee. I went to a second attorney and should have substituted attorneys on my case.

Susan was very professional and tough. She fought very hard for a just and fair settlement in my difficult situation, despite having to deal with several unethical lawyers in succession retained by the Defendant. When they went low, she went high. It was a very frustrating and unhappy time in my life. I found her fees to be consistent with the profession, and I consider her a friend. I can only wish her easier cases in the future.

Susan Schauf represented me in several misdemeanor criminal matters. Susan got two warrants quashed, several fines reduced and out of collections and other requirements decreased or extinguished. Susan fought hard and did not give up when the going got tough. I would recommend her without hesitation!

I went to Ms.Schauf during one of the most stressful times of my life, I was looking for a lawyer to help me get divorced from my husband (now ex husband ^_^) and I had a hard time finding someone I felt I could trust who wouldn't charge me an outrageous retainer! When I finally came across Ms.Scahuf it was like the clouds parted and a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders! Both she and Cheryl were absolutely amazing to work with. Always ready to take my calls and answer any questions I had! I was well informed throughout the whole process! Honestly I don't know how they do it, I would highly, HIGHLY reccommend them if you are looking for an amazing lawyer who is going to truly represent you and listen to your needs! I am truly overjoyed with everything Susan and Cheryl did for me!!

If only no stars were an option. DO NOT hire this woman.. Years later i'm still dealing with her mistakes. She showed up to my trial late and admitted she had no clue who i was and hadn't reviewed my case at all. A legal scam artist at best. Thousands of dollars made from her own home, while she relaxes in the pool. We got into mediation and I had to pull her outside because I was so upset. Felt like my ex had given her the money as she agreed to whatever she asked.

Attorney susan schauf helped me finally bring a 6 year divorce process to closure. As I was an out-of-state client, she made every effort to keep me involved and always had my best interest at heart. susan was faced with a very difficult case and she handled it like a champ. Not only did susan handle my divorce successfully she also dealt with the relocation of my children since my ex had me served and used jurisdiction to keep the kids in Arizona when we lived in Idaho. Susan did amazing at both trials and was very knowledgeable and also very well known and respected in the court room. Other than the 2 trials there were a couple hearings that she arranged a telephonic appearance since I was in a different state. I would definitely recommend susan as an attourney she is amazing! Thank you susan for all that you did. I am writing this review even before the judge makes his ruling because susan faught hard and never gave up on me on this difficult case . Thank you!

Susan cleaned up the mess my first attorney made of my divorce proceedings when he filed ill-conceived, unrealistic and untimely motions that ran up my costs needlessly. She got the motions vacated and got my divorce settlement back on track. She corrected the combative atmosphere that my first attorney had created and established an atmosphere of professionalism. Susan is very focused and clear thinking and will not lead you down paths that run up your legal costs and not achieve the results intended. Due to her many years in the legal system, she understands explicitly what will and will not work. Listen to her advice and you will be fine.

I had a very bad experience with Susan Schauf. I started with another attorney that passed away so I took on Susan Schauf who would take over the case. Various times I asked Susan if she had reviewed my case and she always said no and complained that my file was too thick. She was very unprofessional and had no people skills.
She asked the judge to give her more time to become more prepared with my case and she never actually became familiar with my case. At one time she thought my husband was retired military (which he is not). I gave her various letters to provide as disclosures for when we went to court because I have a medical condition. When we went to court she never disclosed my medical condition. The judge had to find out (on her own) why I had so many medical costs and came to find out that Susan never disclosed this information and was shocked.
The few times I called to talk to Susan on the phone she was very rude and/or unavailable. One time she did take my call and told me I had 2 minutes to talk to her because she didn't have time to talk to me. When we did go to court she was not prepared at all. All she had in her hand was my W-2 form and did everything possible to settle out of court. She even used unprofessional language trying to get my husband and I to agree on a settlement out of court because she was so unprepared. After the proceedings she was very angry with me because the judge had called her and my husband's attorney to have a sidebar. The judge couldn't make a decision at the time for spousal support because she didn't disclose all the paperwork she should have. When we got out of court she was very angry with me and told me that things we're going to go worse for me. I asked her why and she yelled at me, "DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?" and said she would not do another thing for me until she received more money even though I had already given her payment in full. She wanted an additional $2700.
With my medical condition I decided this lawyer was too stressful for me and was not working in my favor. She didn't even know my case.
Also, she works from her home and you can hear her speaking to other clients from her living room and she's very rude to them also. When she hangs up her and her assistant talk about the cases and make fun of the people. Very disrespectful.

Just returned from a day of trial with Susan Schauf and she was a joy to watch! My wife left me and my children in Tucson and moved to San Diego to live with her boyfriend. Susan helped me handle everything from custody and parenting time issues to division of property and debts. I would never have been able to navigate my way through this without Susan's help!!
