Please, stay clear of this attorney!

I never write reviews, especially negative, but if it helps even one person, I feel I should.

Back in August 2017, I’ve visited Elaine to handle my divorce based off her wonderful reviews. She seemed compassionate, as well as truly caring about my situation as well as supportive in me trying to possibly save my marriage. She was going to file an abatement to get more time, and we’d take it from there, which I later found out, she never did! She knew going in that I have a toddler, as well as a husband that has substance abuse problems. I gave her the $5000.00 retainer. My husband ended up going off the deep end at the end of December and I was genuinely concerned and scared, especially since we time share our child. It was almost impossible to reach her, and when I did, it was if I was bothering her. When we finally got mediation set for a Friday in January, I met with her for 2 hours the Monday before to go over everything. That Wednesday at almost 5:00, I received a call from her paralegal stating that she would not be at my mediation and that she was passing my case to another attorney bc ‘she might have surgery in the future’, a man who does not specialize in family law as she does, whom I’d never met, and who charges a 1/4 of what she does. Upon firing her, I learned that she would not return the unused balance of my retainer, which I have now learned is rather unethical from my next lawyer who holds everything in a trust, and actually returned unused money! Divorce is already stressful and expensive. Save yourself the added frustration brought on by Elaine.

My divorce was final in January of 2018 Mrs. Simon is without a doubt the worst attorney I could have possibly chosen. I was abandoned prior to the trial date and went to trial with an attorney that I had never spoken to nor meet. Mrs. Simon did not have my best interest in mind at any point during the process and in fact tried to get me to give more to my ex wife and said It wasn’t fair to her that she has to put in money to pay off HER car. I lost everything in this divorce and basically walked away with no transportation or place to live. Mrs. Simon wanted even more for my ex wife. And scammed me for over $11,000 to screw be over as she was most definitely in corporation with the opposing attorney, at my expense. My ex wife is now flaunting her life as she was not destitute as claimed in this case, and used against for the purpose of alimony. I was ordered to pay $1000. A month to a woman that made as much or more than I do, and the children are grown. I have been basically forced to subsidize her life of cruises and parties while I am left to work until I die.
Terrible attorney!!! Never once stood up to oppose anything. She let me crash and burn without ever speaking a word.

My case was settled before trial, but by the time we went to final mediation, Elaine had already built such a strong case that the agreement was essentially made on my terms. This not only saved me money, but helped to avoid any further mudslinging and the emotional toll that comes with going to trial in a divorce.
