I hired Mrs. Mathis for a Divorce/custody case. I paid him a flat rate on $5,000 that he said will cover all cost for this case. I sent him several emails about how children's dad was constantly violating the temporary Court Order in place. I asked him to file a motion on all violations. Mr. Mathis said we already have a date for Final hearing and that we should wait until then to address all of my concerns. But he didn't mentioned anything at the Final Hearing. Then when the hearing was over I asked him why didnt tell the judge about all violations on temporary court order? According to Mr. Mathis the Judge already knew and that we should wait for the Judge's decision. I told him I was very specific and I wanted the Judge to know before making a decision on my case! Mr. Mathis said "representation does not extend post-trial filings." I told him we have already agreed on a flat fee. He said, "If you want us to file any post-trial motions we will need a new retainer fee and representation agreement for that." Why would this be consider post-trial fees? This is something I asked before Final Hearing.

I went to the JAG on post and I was given legal advice. I went back to Court and filed a motion. I represented myself! The Jugde asked why none of these was address at the last hearing. I told the Judge I gave all information to Mr. Mathis and that he failed to address my concerns and to file proper motions, and that Mr. Mathis have asked me for another retainer fee!

When I hired Mr. Mathis for my divorce and custody, I made the big mistake of also hiring him for another case which I paid him $900. He dropped both cases after I told him I got legal advice at JAG. It is very sad how someone like Mr. Mathis can take advantage of others like me. He knew I am mom of two children with special needs. He seemed knowledgeable about IEP's because he immediately asked me about it at the first consultation. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE HIRING ANY ATTORNEY. DO NOT BASED YOUR DECISIONS ON THE GOOD REVIEWS YOU SEE IN HERE AS I DID. Ask others that might have gone through similar situations. Good luck!

It is also important to mention that after this attorney dropped both cases, I asked for him to send me copies of all motions he filed for my divorce as he claimed he did. He said he mailed it to me which I never received. I went back to JAG and they requested that Mr. Mathis mailed them the forms directly. Mr. Jacob claimed he did but JAG did not receive the forms. When I asked Mr. Jacob to email me the forms, he said I can just get them from the Court! I PAID him $5,000 I should have the right to get copies of documentations.

Paid out 2600 to help in a custody case, nothing happened he didn’t help all he did was set up mediation which cost another 400 and again nothing changed... so don’t throw your money away like we did!!! Do your research and find a good lawyer that will help you and not just take your money away!!!

Mr. Matthis did a great job on my case. I was in a custody battle fighting for my son who the judge gave his father custody on falsey accusations. I had a attorney prior to him that wasn't about nothing when he had all the proof he needed to get my son back but when I hired Jacob he got right on the case and I got my baby back. He is very genuine and understanding. I'll recommend anyone to him especially in a custody matter. He is worth it!

I’ve never met and dealt with any law firm like MBK. I was with another Law firm for my divorce and that lawyer did nothing but take my money and accomplish absolutely nothing until a buddy at work mentioned Jacob Mathis, I switched and it was the best decision I’ve made not only did he take care of my divorce but I’ve work with Jacob several more times. I’m in the military and while I was stationed away I had issues with some renters called Jacob and took care of no issues. I should have posted my experience with Mr. Mathis months ago. I would definitely recommend this law firm. Mr. Mathis was very professional and knowledgeable in reference to my case. He always kept me informed and responded to my emails and phone messages right away. The staff is very friendly and conduct themselves in a professional manner either on the phone or in person. I also know Ms. Klinghard because she did an amazing job with my son's child visitation battle. This is when she worked at another law firm. Again, I would recommend this firm for any situation.

Paid Mr. Mathis $3500, for about 3 hours of work. He didn't discuss my child support in are trial and didn't even ask my daughter's mother one question. A wonderful law office that is helping me get my foreign spouse with me here in America. Jacob Mathis is an incredibly intelligent and kind man who is thorough when going over information and the things that are required of you. Charging a flat fee instead of charging by the hour is wonderful because you never have to worry about what the cost will be. You will know directly up front with no hidden costs. Jacob Mathis has been our attorney since 2010 for custody. He's always been honest and up front, made not promises on outcomes but was able to provide great insight on how to present a case that was level headed and factual instead of going off emotions. We did not succeed every time simply because of the laws in place on move-away cases, but were able to show that the ridiculous and outrageous claims of the other party were false. He did not attack the opposing counsel or her client at any point and just presented facts and evidence to dispute their lies. I used Jacob a few years ago he promised me alot of thing and not only did he not do any of them he failed to listen to the judgment when the parenting plan was written up by the other lawyer he didn't notice any of the incorrect parts. He also didn't do what he was supposed to by helping me get my son's name changed as was in the judgement. He is by far the worst in child custody in clarkaville. I was trying to get full custody as I have done everything for the children sence they were born. The mother is the live off child support and live off the state type.

Mr. Mathis is an amazing person and an even better attorney. His new office and staff are very welcoming. He not only helped with our case he created a friendship. He was kind and always willing to answer even the simplest of questions. He held our hand and made an unpleasent experience a much more comfortable one. I had the unfortunate experience of needing the services of an attorney. I chose Jacob Mathis because of the reviews I had seen on here. I was hoping that those opinions would hold true. My family was faced with a legal case that we never expected to have to face. Jacob looked over what I brought him and quoted a flat fee. I believe the case turned out more time consuming than Jacob had expected and at the end when I asked what else was owed, he responded with "I said flat fee and I meant it."
