Having a CDL is the equivalent of any other licensed blue collar construction worker. Example: Licensed plumber, electrician, carpenter, welder etc.. A Commercial Drivers License is a “License” showing you have had extensive Defensive Driving classes and training in order to operate a vehicle weighing 80,000 lbs on the public roadway.
I have had a CDL for over 30 years and have never had a single accident while driving a commercial vehicle. I have known and worked with litterally hundreds of other drivers and I must say as a whole, professional truck drivers are by far the safest drivers on the road.
It is not professional for your company to be “chasing ambulances” in order to try to get another client because they probably cut off a truck or were texting or who knows what else while they were driving.
