Mr. Swift is great. I was having troubles with a bank levy he helped me with paperwork in the end I decided to file for bankruptcy, it was very fairly priced and in the beginning he just helped me. He really cares, his office staff is also amazing which is so helpful through rough times to walk into smiling faces. My mother in law lost her husband a little less than 2 months ago, she went to 733 E. Costilla looking for John McLaughlin. Thinking she had an appointment there after calling and speaking with a Chris. Once she arrived to the office Mr. Swift came out introducing himself. She questioned why this man would be seeing her as when she had previously been there at John's office was upstairs a few years ago. Mr. Swift took my mother in law back into his office for almost 2 hours. My mother in law whom was overwhelmed with losing her husband and not seeing the attorney she had made the appointment with was subjected to 2 hours of the Mormon preaching and felt very trapped, she texted me when the attorney walked into kitchen to get ice for his drink. I immediately told her to start recording the entire conversation, of course there is no video only audible on this recording and together we are turning it into the Attorney regulations Board. He scared my mother in law and tried to talk her into filing with him. When my mother left that office we were able to get accurate address on John Mc Laughlin and actually get into to see him. He explained to us this hadn't been the first time something like this had happened, although not to the degree my mother in law dealt with. When she called in and made the appointment with Chris she was not told that John's office had moved quite sometime ago. This was dishonest from the start and she should have left immediately. She was pressured by both Chris and Mr. Swift to go into his office. We are not Mormon, nor do we care who is. My point is this this, they lied from the initial call to get her there, she felt as though she was held hostage in Mr. Swifts office. This was a horrible experience for my mother in law and I assure you it will not end with this review.

Our bankruptcy was longer and more complicated than many but Stephen stuck with us throughout the whole process and kept things rolling along. He filed everything in a timely manner and was very sympathetic to our situation. He really has had our best interests at heart. I would use him again and again.

Mr. Swift was very understanding and compassionate. He helped me to understand why resolving debt was both moral and legal. He is a man of great integrity. I felt like I was in secure hands from start to finish. I believe he is trustworthy and honest, ethical in every way. I trust his ability to do a wonderful job and would refer him to any and all of my family and friends. I believe he really cares for people and the job he performs.

First of all, during the first initial free consultation Mr Swift was very thorough, knowledgable, and was able to answer every question in my unique situation. After careful thought and consideration I had some follow up questions that he was able to answer and decided to go with him. During my 2nd consultation however I signed paperwork that showed his fees, it was suppose to be $2000 if you were over the means or $1500 if you were under the means for household income. By the time I filed I was under the means, and when i walked out of the second consultation the secretary gave me a receipt showing that the fee was $1500. However, once i filed it showed in their payment system that the total fee was $2000 and said that since at the time of my first meeting the past 6 months showed i was over the means and charged me the $2k, i spoke with Mr Swift about this but refused to budge to refund my $500. This office has a lot of miscommunication, mishandling of paperwork, and lot of internal issues among employees, that during my time he had fired/resigned both his secretary and paralegal. I have had issues when emailing to get a response. My bankruptcy was discharged on 31 Dec and have not been notified from this office of any official word, i only got word from the actual bankruptcy court through snail mail.

So maybe people should be more clear on telling their clients on whether they should bring in stubs or a printout of income and I've done that twice and now they tell me I need six months of the actual Stub thanks for being so helpful and then nothing but arguing and unprofessional if you tell me wondering why this wasn't told to me when I turned in income 2 months ago a printout and nobody said anything about stubs

I hired Stephen because he had great reviews and awards and I figure I wouldn't have issues with the bankruptcy process. Initially I worked with an employee, Valerie, and she was amazing. Took and returned calls, followed up, etc. Just before the creditors meeting, I paid to have a lien stripped from my home. Outside the courthouse I asked Stephen about the lien and reaffirmation of my mortgage, which I had already requested to be done a couple weeks before. Today I call for status and was told there wasn't anything in my file on those. I asked where Valerie was because I know she gets things done. I was told she wasn't there anymore. I discovered she resigned and another employee was fired because they refused to continue doing things they weren't comfortable with.
UPDATE1: Mr. Swift asked me to come in to discuss my case and as we ended he asked me to consider taking down this review. Obviously his view of events was different. Apparently complaints have been filed from both sides, so I will wait and see what the outcome is before making this final.
UPDATE 2: I have heard about and seen continued correspondence from Mr Swift and the Disbarred guy (Ward I think), verbal, written, 3rd party, which was coercive, threatening, and intimidating to Valerie. I am aware of Mr Swift contacting Valerie's employers, other attorney's, and lying, slandering her, causing her to lose more than one job. She's barely been able to care for herself and her grandchild, and has been living in literal fear and misery as a result of Mr Swift's highly unprofessional attitude, unsavory character and bullying. Apparently the State has evidence, as they have decided to take Swift to court in late December 2018. If you feel you have also suffered as a result of actions by this heinous practice, you should probably contact State or Federal Bankruptcy court. If I get contact info, I'll post here. And if you are one of the "Good ole Boys" of his dwindling associates, and you are assisting in the libel, slander, fear-mongering, etc,...I hope you get caught as well.

I have filed 3 cases with Mr. Swift. The first time was a Chapter 7 about 7-8 years ago, the 2 Chapter 13's I think like 2 years ago. That is where this starts. I paid Mr. Swift in full to file my chapter 13 the first time. He never made any mention to me that I may have to pay the trustee my VA back payment benefits. We went to court and he became very angry with me and stated he would fix it. I expressed at that time my concerns with him. He went into the trustee meeting and completely lied to them and said there was no money and continued like normal. About a week later he again recanted and forced me to let the case dismiss and repay him 100% to file a new case. Mr. Swift told me that no matter what the case was not able to be discharged so I would have to wait until 11/2018 and have my case again dismiss and refile a chapter 7. My wife and I felt we had no choice. The 2nd case was filed and things seemingly went as planned. In July 2017 I called the Office and spoke to Valerie and let her know that we were moving to Texas. Valerie asked me to hang on a minute and had Mr. Swift speak to me. I told Mr. Swift at that time that we were moving and he was completely ok with it . I know Mr. Swift has my current address because he consistently sends me a bill every month saying I owe him even more money for having extra creditors. Those bill come directly to me here in Texas not in Colorado. About 2 weeks ago Mr. Swift contacted me because I was unable to pay the trustee payment and spoke to me about the Chapter 7 option again. I told him that it was my plan to go ahead with that. Mr. Swift offered me a large discounted rate to have him file my case. I was a bit puzzled with this because I know that by law he cannot do that. I told him that I couldn't have him do it because I am a Texas resident now and he said "it will be fine, use your moms address". I don't break the law and my integrity is better than that so I said again no. I got a letter today from the Trustee stating that Mr. Swift nor them were ever notified that I moved and that I have to complete a new plan with extra payments. That is a clear lie on Mr. Swifts part as well and retaliation for me not wanting to partake in his shady illegal ways. I attempted to call the office and speak to Valerie or even Patty again to find out what is going on to find that neither one of them work there. I am at a loss now because I feel scammed and lied to by the person I paid a few thousand dollars to protect me. I can now only sit and wonder how many others are in my same position being bullied and retaliated against. I know from past posts and issues I can be expecting a phone call, but I can say to him save it. The damage is done

As both a former employee ( resigned) and client I've learned a lot . The attorney himself is all about himself. Having filed my own chapter 13 with only one objection. I panicked and let him talk me into a 2500.00 fee. Mind you I fixed the only objection there had been on my own after signing a fee agreement that I was pressured into. People fall on hard times every day. However I feel that after working both sides of this business , it is not one you can trust. Since my departure in May of this year clients have been harrassed by Mr. Swift, even threatened with a dismissal of their cases if they had filed by themselves ( pro se) or with another attorney. Spouting it's theft. Clients so scared they are still scrambling. Many of them sent emails and mailings of false statements. Just because a business has a bible on their desks does NOT mean it's a sign from God to go there.That is a ploy and a plot by a business that wants you to believe that. Do your research, realize that there are more compassionate real bankruptcy attorneys whom care for far less money and less scripture to make you believe God says this is okay. It is okay, times are hard, people lose their significant other, lose a job or maybe even get into auto accident, medical bills..whatever your issue may be. You do not need a blessing to know you're going to be okay if you have to file. Go somewhere honest, look at the reviews and prices of other businesses offering the same services . The response posted by the attorney is a complete fabrication. I am not, nor ever have been, "friends" with any of his employees. I never met anyone prior to that day and haven't seen or communicated with anyone since. Seems like a lame attempt to justify the upheaval that occurred in his office, that I must "sympathize" with people I do not even know. Additionally, NO work was done on my case. That is a flat out lie to justify keeping the retainer money. There were no "nagging" creditors, I was exploring options and was not delinquent on any accounts at the time of my visit. There were no "nagging" creditors at all, and no one was ever provided with his information to contact. Ridiculous attempt to justify keeping the $175, but I understand he must justify it as it is illegal in Colorado to keep money for legal services not performed. There was no paperwork, there were no phone calls - literally not a damn thing was ever done from the moment I left his office that day. Keeping that retainer was unethical and unjustifiable, despite the lies used to justify his greed. I never filed for bankruptcy, but in interviews with THREE different local attorneys after my meeting with him, I was warned off of Mr. Swift due to his disorganization and lack of preparedness, and general unethical behaviors. Great, you've practiced for 30 years. Doesn't make you honest or competent in and of itself Sir. In addition to your positive reviews, you will not there are MANY negative reviews stating experiences very similar to mine. I have moved on in the year since this occurred. You should do the same. This review was posted only to give others an honest opinion on my own experience, which is my legal right. Your attempts to bully and coerce me into changing that opinion will not be successful.

My ex-husband and I met with Steve Swift initially in 2011 to discuss bankruptcy needs. A divorce occurred first (which I would never suggest - but the only avenue I could take) and then the bankruptcy was filed in 2014 completed a full two years later. Steve Swift personally handled all appointments and requirements and took a very caring attitude toward it all. He met with me many times and spent countless overtime hours taking care of the issues of my case. It took a full two years to get through and Mr Swift and his staff took great time and effort to complete my case and help me through it. The most important part to me was his time in explaining how everything worked. I am a realtor and work hard to teach processes etc and Mr Swift did the same for me. I appreciate knowing instead of being led. it was not a fun experience; I don't recommend it to anyone but if you have to go through it, hire Mr. Swift and his office. They do a thorough, caring and professional job.

The guy we dealt with was kind of a space case. Wasn't terrible to deal with but was kind of unbearable to sit in a room with for an hour.

Stephen Swift saved our case and is till going to bat for us. We originally hired Todd Morse & Associates to represent our case. We were told by the trustee that our case was dismissed because Morse & Assoc. didn't file for verification of the plan. We tried contacting Morse and Associates for months and they refused to return our phone calls, e-mails and letters. They just vanished even though we left regular messages with their secretary! We were devastated and frustrated. A friend of ours recommended we speak with Mr. Swift who had represented them. Mr. Swift filed the verification himself and had the case reinstated! He continued watching and confirming the case was in good standing for two years until WE insisted he motion to file a change in representation so he could actually close it out. Two months before our last payment, my estranged father was killed, not leaving a will. The trustee, despite our payment plan being paid in full states he is not discharging the case until Probate is concluded, (who knows when that will be?) It is incredibly disheartening and frustrating having no idea when we can close this chapter, However, Mr. Swift is still going to bat for us working with the trustee directly making every effort to help us move on. He has gone above and beyond for us and we truly feel he is Heaven sent. You are not just a number with him, he actually cares.

I'm glade I found the Law Office of Stephen Swift. Not only did they help me through the whole process their rate was affordable and the Creditor's meeting went along without a hitch. Highly recommend Stephen Swift.

I was referred to the firm by a friend who had filed. I was can honostly say that I was very impressed. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the warm receptionist, I believe her name was Patty? Then I spoke with Valarie. She has the most upbeat personality and was a joy to work with. She offered me beverages and made me feel really comfortable. Valarie is very knowledgeable and has no problem answering as many questions you might have. Once I turned in my paperwork I was scheduled an appointment with Mr. Swift the next day. My impression of Stephen Swift?? What a great guy!! He found something we had in common and the conversation took off from there. We reviewed my paperwork and right away got me a court date. That was it. Almost exactly 24hrs from me turning in my paperwork to him reviewing the info I got my court date. He also gave me a great book to help me get back on my feet. I am so glad I went to this firm and I would refer them to friends, family and strangers.
