“You’re my customer, but that doesn’t mean I have to be polite to you.”

I found an ad on Craigslist for Joseph’s (Francis’) services and contacted him because the ad said he accepts payment plans and since I was on limited funds due to being out of work for months after the birth of my daughter.

I hired him to edit my 50+ page response to court regarding my child custody. It was determined that the best course of action would be to request an emergency extension. On my first day at a new job, with Joseph’s recommendation, I informed my employer that I would need that coming Friday off of work in order to go to court to file the ex-parte that Joseph would be preparing. After excuse after excuse, he promised to provide me with a letter explaining to the judge why I needed the extension. He didn’t begin working on my file until the evening before court. I begged him to please send me an email copy that night so I could to review and approve of it myself before submitting it to court the next day. I tried calling to get status around 8:00 pm and he said he was busy at dinner. It wasn’t until 6:47 am the next day (morning of), that he emailed me the ex-parte and there was NO explanation to the court as to why I was filing it besides saying I “deserve to have legal representation.” When I questioned him about it, he condescendingly responded with “it’s not rocket science.” The ex-parte was declined by the judge due to “no extenuating circumstances.” I was super discouraged about my fate after that. To top things off, my last phone call with Joseph, he was very rude, short with me, kept cutting me off where I couldn’t get a word in edgewise. After hanging up from the call and rather fed up that I paid this man and he’s done nothing but be unprofessional and rude, I messaged him advising that he isn’t kind on the phone and I’d rather communicate in writing and he should try to be a little more polite and customer service oriented. His response was “You’re my customer, but that doesn’t mean I have to be polite to you.” Wow. Come Monday morning, he’s hounding me for my second payment (as if he knew canceling might be on my mind due to his unprofessionalism). In addition, he had the nerve to say “We need to keep our messages short.” So here only 3 days remaining before having to submit my full declaration and response to court, he tells me let’s keep it short. How am I supposed to do business with someone that is too rude to talk on the phone with and is now telling me I can’t even write in length to communicate with him!!! This is a crucial time in my case. The most important time of a case; the preparation. Ugh. After that, I chose to cancel working with him and I asked for a refund. He declined my request (wouldn’t even refund half) even after I told him that I had to borrow the money from my mom who borrowed it from her 401k so that I could fight for my kids. No empathy. He then proceeded to argue with me via email for several emails back and forth.

Feel free to message me for more details and print screens of our conversation as proof of his unethical practices.

I would definitely not recommend doing business with this guy and I wish I hadn’t. I now have no funds to hire someone to help me and only days away from court. He really left me in a bind, ripped me off and has left me very displeased.

The fair thing to do would have been to refund most of my money as he was hired to prepare a “response” consisting of at least 30 pages, not a 1 page hearing extension. A la carte prices would be more like $100 for an ex parte. But no, he’s kept the $750 I paid him upfront.

Honestly, I would have been okay with him just apologizing for his inappropriateness and issuing a refund and moving on with our lives, but the complete disregard for compassion and professionalism then the arguing back and forth and no empathy for my predicament AND the comment “You’re my customer, but that doesn’t mean I have to be polite to you,” highly upset.

Blessed

If I could rate this company a zero I would. I am not a client of this company however the owner Francis signed a 6 month contract with me to do some advertising. After his first month he decided he just didnt want to pay the remaining 5 months. For about 2 weeks he kept telling me he was going to deposit the money in my bank account which obviously was a lie. He made excuse after excuse.

I feel like I need to give feedback on a buyer if they do not pay... otherwise what is the point for a review section. In my opinion if the owner of this company(especially one that is in the legal field) does not honor obligations of a contract then I say potential clients should beware! He obviously has no regard for the law. Not only that but he was very unprofessional and very sarcastic. There are many other reputable paralegal services in the area...I would call them!
