We were referred to Clements and Sweet, specifically Danny Levitas, by a trusted friend. Even with a positive verbal referral, it’s very difficult to choose an attorney. They can dramatically alter your future after an injury, something we were learning the hard way after choosing a lazy one (who apparently does not have a firm grip on the nuances of the Workman’s Comp system) from an internet search. After spending more than 3 years with the prior firm, we were nearing the end of the statute of limitations, and were being all but ignored.

After taking the time to talk with us during a consultation (which ended up being more than 2 hours), we hired Danny. He answered all our questions and provided us with realistic expectations and insight to bring about a successful outcome of my situation! I highly recommend him for whatever situation you have.

I was injured in 2003 and my case was classified as “Catastrophic.” John Sweet was my attorney, and I thought he was the best. When he retired I was devastated and then I received a call from Danny Levitas He turned out to be the best thing that happened for me. He immediately wanted a face to face meeting. From the beginning he was on top of everything that was happening with Workers Comp. In 2015, workers’ comp stopped my weekly check for no good reason. This began 2 years of financial and emotional distress. I guess I could almost write a book about the things we went through. The point is, Danny was there for me; in the evening, on the weekend, whenever there was an issue we tried to resolve. He was always on top or ahead of what was about to happen. For most of my 50+ years, when attorneys were mentioned in conversation, I would reply with a long list of unflattering comments. But that was before I met Tom Clements. I was catastrophically injured while working. For the first 16 years, and after interviewing with many attorneys, I had given up hope of ever being represented. The extent of my injuries, and the permanent effects of them ( I was permanently paralyzed) made it unlikely that any settlement would be possible, so most attorneys declined to take the case, since it would be expensive for them and unlikely to pay off. Clements and Sweet took my case, though, and through ten long and active years, represented my interests far beyond any expectations I might have had. They never hesitated to go to court to force my employer to fulfill their legal obligations to me.

In the State of Georgia, Workers Compensation is covered by a special set of laws set apart from standard Civil Law. There are specific and limited areas of compensation, and attorneys for employers are known to exploit these factors well, often to the detriment of injured employees. I just wanted to let everyone know how satisfied I am with my council during this whole process. I know a lot of Attorneys. I have worked with them, hired them and recommended them. Although most of my experience deals with criminal prosecutions and police related situations, I cannot tell you the level of satisfaction that I have today because of my choice in retaining The Clements and Sweet Law Firm and Dan Levitas. In doing so, not one, but 5 judges sided with his assessment of my case. For some that know me it would seem that my case was a “no brainer” no pun intended… but it wasn’t. The opposition fought hard to try and weasel their way out of their legal obligation to pay for my ppd (partial and permanent disability) rating; even to the point of lying to the judge. And not on just one occasion but multiple times. If you are ever injured on the job, not just in this city, but anywhere in Georgia, don’t sit around and hope your employer does the right thing, because the laws have changed since my injury and these same folks that fought me have convinced our state legislators to institute a statute of limitations for an injury, so do not wait to see if you will be treated fair. Call them and get the process moving. Let me add this. Even though your case is over and you’ve won, Dan doesn’t sit back and put his feet up. He continues to make sure that I’m receiving the proper care by scheduling appointments and following up. I only wish I would have called sooner.
