I havent personally used this firm but as I sat in a courtroom waiting for my family members trial, this law firm not only took 10 + cases to trial in that week but won 7 of those trials during that week. They were quite impressive. I hope to never need their help but if I do need legal help I'm definitely calling this firm.

Reply to Brian Sullivan: Please dont advertise lies about this law firm you told me numerous times how disappointed you were in their services, Mr. Mcghee gave Mr. Sullivan a percentage off his legal fees, if he gave a good review!! False advertisement Really!! My true story: My now ex husband and I went through a chaotic divorce and his lawyer was Mr. McGhee. My experience is based on what I dealt with in phone and email conversations as well as what was told to me by my ex husband and McGhee's Secretary and how the divorce was handled. First Mr. Mcghee, does not like to speak to people that are "Pro Se" (representing yourself) so even though you worked for over 10 years in the law field as a paralegal and you can easily save your money by doing the settlement and divorce yourself, Shawn McGhee will make sure to give you a hard time. Not only does he lie and says there is a conflict of interest, which is why he won't speak to you which by the way, THAT IS NOT TRUE, but he will not answer any of the calls. For whatever reason he was not able to speak to me which to me seems very unprofessional, he would often have his secretary let me know what was needed for the divorce to be settled. I think because I do know what I needed to do legally, and trust me lawyers hate people that have worked in law fields you cant pull a sheet over legal assistants or paralegals eyes easily, we know all the tricks. Now his secretary had given me some information that had holes in what she said that included the discovery process and hearings as well as the laws. Because of the communication between me and her and then what she told my ex husband of what I said, which were twisted, this made the divorce messy and long . And I believe the reason was for trial which is very expensive, but lawyers love expensive. Now one thing which is grounds for a grievance is that Mr. McGhee gave advice on the amount of payments for child support that should be paid which is unethical and should only be done by a referee. Mr. Mcghee, has no compassion for children as he informs his clients that they don't need to be responsible parents and pay for the kids until a judge says so, which to me makes me wonder about his character. Being out of state I was not able to do much, and my ex did not even live in Alabama as law requires in order to file but as usual somehow McGhee got around that. I have worked for law firms since I was 16 years old I could never work for someone that does things that are unethical, shady and down right wrong he has no moral character, and I would be scared if my papers would be questioned by a judge with the amount of lies that my ex and his lawyer gave to me. Please look at other Law firms that will look at your case and care enough to not control your decisions and won't run up your bill for no reason. Me and my ex husband managed to settle together without the hearsay talk of his lawyer. The issue I have is there are amazing lawyers out there and Mr. Mcghee is the reason that lawyers have such a bad reputation. Make sure you chose a lawyer that will care about your interests and especially the kids, don't let the kids get lost in the divorce they are the most important thing, don't let the lawyer stress you or the other party or you will cause more harm and extend something that is not good for anyone. And make sure to hold your ground. Research on your lawyer don't chose someone because they are cheap eventually they will show you why they are cheap, Mr. Mcghee was affordable for my ex-husband until hearings and trial came around and then up goes his hourly. Don't be fooled.

Communication's not their strong suit...in the end they did what was expected but as an out of state client the lack of communication was distressing in moments. In the end it was okay...did represent me and were better about communicating.

Mr. Smith and his paralegal Ms. Mason went above and beyond to obtain the best possible settlement in my divorce. Because this was the end of a 33 year marriage they were very thorough in obtaining all the information needed in order to have a fair division of financial and property assets, along with the facts needed in obtaining a fair alimony settlement. I had moved to another state for my own peace of mind, but I was always kept informed. I did have to return for a temporary support hearing and mediation, which was to be expected. From the time my ex-spouse was served with papers to the finalization of the the divorce was about 7 months. I feel very blessed that Mr. Smith and Ms. Mason were able to bring closure as quickly as they did in my contested divorce process. Mr. Smith knows the family law concerning divorce matters and can go about this process in a calm and respectful manner to everyone that's involved yet get his point across in the best interest of his client. If you are needing a divorce lawyer that will be looking out for you - his client I highly recommend Mr. Smith and his staff.

Contacted this firm for assistance in a legal matter. Asked secretary to email me a good time to expect a conference call. Called once and left no messages and haven’t tried calling again. That was three weeks ago. If it’s not that important for you to reach out to potential clients, I don’t want to have you represent me anyways. I’m 1000 miles away and if you won’t follow a simple task of reaching out to me prior to a conference call, how can I trust you to handle my legal needs when I’m so far away??? I had met with a number of attorney's for assistance in resolving an issue and was told they couldn't help. Thomas Smith took my case and had the issue resolved in less than a week. Highly professional, well organized with great follow up.

I was VERY dissatisfied with their service. They basically told me they could not help me due to the fact I smoke cigarettes. Never seen a sign stating that I could not smoke, better yet I never smoked in front of the business. They made up an emergency for me to leave and told me over the phone when I call this morning as to why I had to leave. I came from New Brockton, AL just to be turned around because I smoked. IF YOU SMOKE CIGARETTES THIS IS NOT THE BUSINESS TO GO TO DEALING WITH LEGAL MATTERS!

Well, I wouldn't say that I liked the place as I went there to sign divorce papers, but everyone I dealt with was very nice, understanding, and accommodating during a difficult time.

After a brief consultation with Scott Smith along with a detailed gameplan only a short amount of time passed before I was awarded full leagal and physical custody of my child!! Scott's experience allowed me to be confident and comfortable throughout the entire process, I was kept up-to-date with every hearing and motion and the process was made comprehensive by Scott.

I am extremely satisfied with Smith and McGhee. I had a child custody and child support issue. That I just needed some help to take some of the stress off my back. I highly recommend this law firm. I have used them in the past and they were great and they are still great. Scott Smith put in a lot of work for me dealing with state and federal agencies to correct a clerical issue. He is very professional and talks directly to you when he needs to discuss things about your case.

I was frustrated due to lack of communication between my attorney and I, but in the end my attorney went to bat for me. I will try and relax in the future and let my attorney do his job. I would recommend Smith & McGhee.

Not helpful at all! Shaun McGhee isn't very good at his "so-called" profession. He is more concerned about stealing your money.

Had a custody battle. They care more about taking your money than helping you. I had to hire someone else who did get the job done right.
