I hired Mr. Merrell to represent me in an emergency hearing to try and get custody of my grand child and keep her from being okaced in foster care. There were no allegations of abuse or neglect and it should have been an easy case to win. I paid a $1000,00 retainer fee. He sent another attorney Ms. Baulder and she was totally incompetent. She told me that I could not enter the court room because I was not a party to the case but the child's mother was present and wanted me to go in with her and I had every right to do that but Ms.Baulder refused and just sat at the table and did nothing. She told me that a half day at court would cost $650.00. I contacted Mr. Merrill and asked for my money back he would not even refund me the $350.00 that was left after paying her the $650.00 for doing nothing. I had paid him $1030.00 and he sent me a check for $15.00. Do not trust this law firm.,

Very friendly and up front about what to expect. There were a couple of times I felt like I had to pull information, however to be fair I am a bit impatient at times. Also, I think some of it is the legal system itself and not the law firm.Overall, they took care of my issues and I would use them again if needed.

I first met April Bauder at legal aid in Birmingham. I took my daughter with me to be my other "eyes and ears" as I suffer from anxiety and panic disorders, and needed legal advice as my husband was divorcing me, for the 4th time and I had no money to hire an attorney. April was kind and compassionate and patient. I started off my divorce without a lawyer, as the husband made me all kind of promises, and I believed him. You know the saying " fool me once, shame on you, fool me 7639 times.....", well..... things got ugly, and I saved my quarters, dimes, and nickles, worked harder, and on Jan 23, 2018 I hired Miss April Bauder. Why? You don't fake kindness, that is something you are taught. You don't fake compassion, that is something you feel. People with handicaps are treated "different", and April has never treated me different. She ALWAYS returns my calls, and last, her laughter! She has this infectious, contagious BEAUTIFUL laughter!!!! The last few months have been sorrowful, painful, and soooo much hurt. I could cry til the sun goes down, April calls me and I giggle, and giggle and giggle! Proverbs 17:22 "a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." (NIV) AND Leah Thomas? Well, somewhere is a storage unit, there is a sparkling little tiara, for her, and she will be the guest of honor at my next pool party! Thank you, thank you thank you, April. I am going through a nasty divorce. I wanted Mr. Merrell to rep. Me but he pushed me off on Mrs. Harrison. I paid $1000 for her to come to my Pendente Lite court appearance. I had never saw her. She asked me for a document and disappeared for a while. She came and got me around the side hall on another wooden bench after back surgery. I paid another $500 to send the answer to the Decree. Never got to speak to her again. I sent emails and got a rude email saying "I can not check emails all day. You aren't my only case.
I then got a letter from Ed which was asking for $5000 immediately to cover the remainder of the case. I sent Mrs. Harrison an email that I had something that could shut down the case. I got a rude email that told me they would not speak to me or return an email till I paid $460 or so now and then the remainder of $5000. That was the last straw. I got them to send me an invoice for ONLY what was behind. I WILL NEVER SUGGEST THEM. Now with no lawyer searching for another I am going to lose my battle to keep my son. It's all about the $$$. I'm paying the deficit, getting my stuff and taking it to another attorney.
