Most people have no idea about their rights as tenants. Eager to move in somewhere and not fully understanding the lease can come back to bite you. Everything in writing. My mother and I spoke to Mario who was no help at all. He was very negative and unsupportive. We than talked to other professionals about our tenants rights and got the answers we were seeking. Word of advise do your research and don't settle.

Joezen real helped me out at the Van Nuys location. He genuinely cares about his clients, and initially helped me free of charge when I went in for my court date.

If you know what lawyers normally charge, then you know BASTA is inexpensive. They charge you a low flat rate for a case which could potentially take 6 month or even more.

They charge you what an average lawyer would charge for 1 day, but they work for you until the end of your case.

They even do pro-bono work for the public good when tenants need help.

These critical questions are directed to the managing partners of this Gang/Mafia-like-run Non-Profit Organization:

Mr. Ned Harris/Mr. Danny Bramzon,

1)- With regard to case #15R06672, and according to the Santa Monica court case file, you/your entity collected approximately $21,761 from my landlord. Per our retainer agreement you stated that you would only get around 33% of that amount -- ~$7,181. Why haven't you disbursed/paid me the remaining amount of $14,580, including accrued interest, as agreed yet? If yes, how much exactly, when, and how?

2)- The landlord's staff told me that you/Mr. Segura/your attorneys/your entity are currently (without my knowledge) collecting the monthly arrearage payment of $225 - for the next three years - as part of a secret deal that you've signed with the landlord/its counsel. Why have you colluded with the landlord/it's counsel to defraud me and deprive me of my tenancy and civil rights as your client?

3)- It has been over eleven months and the landlord has not installed the LVT/Pergo flooring to my entire unit as expressly agreed upon in our stipulation, which was approved/sealed by an Honorable Judge at the Long Beach Superior Court. Why have not you filed a declaration of non-compliance in court to vacate the stipulation/guarantee/defend/recoup my rights?

4)- You stated in one of your misleading e-mail response that you would not represent me (as your client) at the scheduled REAP hearing today, apropos the anticipated 20% rent-reduction, why is that? If that's the case, and since you also stated in your e-mail response: "our representation of you has ended." Are you going to promptly refund me the $750 cash that you coerced me to pay you in your office?

5)- According to some of your clients and my experience with you as a minority and disabled client thus far, you/your non-profit organization have been discriminating and using favoritism in assigning your experienced attorneys to clients/prospects based on their source of income, race/ethnicity, religion, disability, and national origin. For instance, you and your Vice President of Community Affairs, Ms. Rebeca Marcos have asked me in your office to pay extra/an hourly rate of $325 for your "best" attorney Mr. Kevin Hermansen to represent me. Why? Is that why Mr. Hermansen represents exclusively financially-capable/white individuals among your clients?

6)- Why did you and Mr. Segura mislead and coerced me to waive non-waiveable claims in my stipulation, that other lawyers told you at the Santa Monica court that such waivers would be against public policy, and advised against it? Why did you threatened me?

7)- On August 23, 2018, during my without-notice hearing at the Santa Monica Court, why your incompetent and misleading attorney, Magda Madrigal, who barely speak English, colluded with my landlord's counsel, Ada Cordero Sacks, to deprive me of my rights, including but not limited to, continuance demand, proof of service, drafting a new stipulation, and showing the Judge all the e-mails sent to the landlord about fixing my unit; and my disability medical records?

You'll be compelled to answer all these questions and more to the State Bar of California, The Office of Attorney General, and local, state, and federal authorities. We'll make sure that you land in jail for all the crimes you've committed against and other uninformed tenants/clients.

This place was recommened to me late last night (Sunday), so I came on here to read the reviews and read about how they help. Im a single Mom with limited funds and take the bus so I just wanted to make sure it would be worth the trip since my court hearing is tomorrow. After reading the reading the reviews of others saying how Basta was so helpful, nice & there were a few that say the called or went into office late in the afternoon with a next day court date and they were assured not to worry Basta would represent them & go to court the next morning.
WELL NOT TRUE, NOT TRUE AT ALL! I WITNESSSED THE OFFICE MANAGER NOT ONLY HAVE THIS CONVERSATION OUT IN THE OPEN RECEPTION AREA, BUT BE VERY RUDE WHILE DOING IT. Apparently they represented this woman, won the case and she was at the office to pick up money she was awarded. Apparently this woman went to court without her husband, which if he was included in the suit he would of had to be in court. This manager would not release this womans money to her without her husband present and everyone in reception had to hear the whole conversation, so unprofessional.
To top it off, the woman who called my name was not friendly at all & honest she made me very self conscious. She asked what the reason was I was there i showed her paperwork n started to explain, she cut me off and told me they couldnt help it was late notice PERIOD! NO Im sorry but unfortunately blah blah blah, no empathy not even a smile.
On the website it makes it clear that they cannot answer any legal questions over the phone, you must come into the office and speak to someone.... NOT TRUE EITHER, 1. Was bothered that I even wanted to ask her a few questions and 2. The answers I was given were not correct at all, I just hung up with an actual attorney who was able to answer my questions, as well as calm my severe anxiety after her incorrect answers.
I would NOT recommend this organization to anyone for anything! I would also suggest that if these women hate their jobs so much that they can't even mustard up a smile, a pleasant greeting or just simple truth, they need to find new ones!

Magda!! Told me that there office was too busy to assist me over the phone. She claimed to say it seemed that I needed someone to talk to and that there firm was not a free of charge service. I was highly recommended to this firm but it seems not only are the agressive with there cases but they seem very rude disrespectful to new comers. Iwas a Resident Manager in Los Angeles who was fired and then served with eviction papers all in the span of two weeks. It was an extremely rough ordeal having to lose both my job/home and the threat of having an eviction go on my record all before I could digest what was happening. I called several eviction lawyers who were uncertain about how to handle my case being that I was not simply a tenant but the ex Resident Manager. These People are Leaches, Extortionist ,Liars and need to be put out of business . They take advantage of everyone including their clients and have no respect for the Judicial System . They are supposed to be a Non Profit Organization but are really in it for all Profit at the expense of honest hard working people. Hands down the best legal firm in Los angles. If you're in need of a world class legal team to represent you, look no further then this firm. I have been working with Rebecca Kevin and Danny for over a year now. I must say if they were not representing me my entire life would be different right now. They have single handedly put a stop to the corruption and greed plaguing Los angles tenants. If you're being harassed or threatened by your land lord, you must stop by for a consult. I was referred by one of my attorney's office. They charged me $1000 for fee, addition to that any money they collect from landlord there going to take 33.33% . I filed the demmoror complain by myself. I handed them to file answer witch I can file by myself. I thought it would be best idea to gave them power of attorney to run witch I figure out that they rip me off. How? Here is the math for public to verify. We settle the case before the juror $6500. Out of that they deducted $2400. We paid from our pocket $1000. So, $2400+1000 = $3400. Shame. But one thing I should mention that Dominique and couple others was nice with me.
