Last year my brother was a happy 22 year old living the life of many people that age, moving away from home, spending time with friends and enjoying life to the fullest.

That is, until a devastating motorycyle accident changed everything.

My brother was working as a server at a restaurant, it was past midnight when he was done for the day, his car had broke down so one of his co workers offered to give hima ride on his new motorcycle.
It was my brothers first time ever riding on a motorcycle and he said the ride felt okay. But in an instant, everything changed.

A man driving away from a previous hit and run took a red light travelling at about 80 miles an hour when he almost hit my brother and his coworker. The bike hit a light reflector in the road, which was wet from an earlier rainy day. The bike began to hydroplane and, on instinct, the driver pushed him off the bike and jumped off himself. (He feared that they would smash into a tree and be killed on impact.) My brother landed hard on his side and then skidded across the roadway on his back.

His clothes were burned off his body and he was left naked and bloodied on the side of the road. Half his body was covered in third degree burns and his skin had melted completely off in six locations, exposing the bones beneath. He also broke his collar bone. My brother was unconscious and slowly bleeding to death by the time he arrived in the emergency department.

When my parents got the call we all rushed to the hospital to be by his side. When he woke up two days later, the doctors had already performed 11 hours of surgery to clean debris, mostly pavement, out of his wounds.

My brother stayed in the burn unit at first, where he had constant monitoring in case of infection. He was wrapped in bandages from head to toe with a morphine drip going into his heart. The pain was constant. He couldn’t eat very much and it would take him hours just to finish one meal. He also spent 3 weeks in ICU. When he finally came home, my mom had to bathe him and wrap his burns every day for over six months. In the bath she had to take the dead skin out of the burns so that they would heal properly. For six months he wore compression bandages on his legs.

My brother was not able to work for a year after the accident and was facing hospital bills of more than $300,000.

When I got rear-ended in rush hour traffic on the 134 on my way home from work, I didn't know what I was going to do. I'm glad I knew of the El Dabe Law Firm. I had met Sherif Edmond El Dabe socially prior to the accident, and he always struck me as a very intelligent, kind and earnest person, so I called him to inquire about my options.
