My wife and I sought advice through John to help defend our position on a motion for summary judgment. When we spoke to John, despite having advanced time to prepare, it was as if he had not read the documents but instead offered insight commonly found online with a few key word searches on Google. As the case progressed, we needed additional council however; John did not respond to at least 4 different attempts by us to meet with him. This is highly unprofessional behavior no matter what industry you are in. I would recommend moving on to another attorney. When you need advice most, the last thing you want is to rely on someone who does not follow up.

So, I had a meet and greet with Skiba about taking on a student loan adversary proceeding. Being the self-proclaimed "Student Loan Warrior," I hoped he might be just the guy for the job. At his office, he looked over the pleadings filed so far in the case, convincingly stated that he believed a discharge was plausible under the circumstances, that he was interested in taking on the matter, and that he would review the case in detail that evening at no charge and follow up with me the next day. I found this unexpected, and a seemingly very reasonable offer. I thanked him for his time, and looked forward to his prompt response as there was a hearing pending in the not too distant future.
The next day, Friday, came and went without said response ... but he was offering to review the case for free, a generous offer from an attorney. I'll cut the guy a break. The following Tuesday came and went without a response as well ... but it had been Memorial Day, and the guy has six kids, and getting back to work after that kind of weekend would be a plate full for anyone. I'll give him one more day to be fair. Beginning Wednesday, I attempted to touch base. Over two weeks pass without any response to my unanswered emails and phone calls. Finally, I get a one-liner from his secretary that he is declining representation at this time.
Well, thanks for the heads up, Skiba. Perhaps you could have filled me in a bit sooner since you knew I was looking for representation at the upcoming hearing? Perhaps you were just too consumed with your twitter feed to offer me a simple common courtesy. Sumo sized? Practically. Sumo Student Warrior? Not really.
