I hired Mr. Mathis for a Divorce/custody case. I paid him a flat rate on $5,000 that he said will cover all cost for this case. I sent him several emails about how children's dad was constantly violating the temporary Court Order in place. I asked him to file a motion on all violations. Mr. Mathis said we already have a date for Final hearing and that we should wait until then to address all of my concerns. But he didn't mentioned anything at the Final Hearing. Then when the hearing was over I asked him why didnt tell the judge about all violations on temporary court order? According to Mr. Mathis the Judge already knew and that we should wait for the Judge's decision. I told him I was very specific and I wanted the Judge to know before making a decision on my case! Mr. Mathis said "representation does not extend post-trial filings." I told him we have already agreed on a flat fee. He said, "If you want us to file any post-trial motions we will need a new retainer fee and representation agreement for that." Why would this be consider post-trial fees? This is something I asked before Final Hearing.

I went to the JAG on post and I was given legal advice. I went back to Court and filed a motion. I represented myself! The Jugde asked why none of these was address at the last hearing. I told the Judge I gave all information to Mr. Mathis and that he failed to address my concerns and to file proper motions, and that Mr. Mathis have asked me for another retainer fee!

When I hired Mr. Mathis for my divorce and custody, I made the big mistake of also hiring him for another case which I paid him $900. He dropped both cases after I told him I got legal advice at JAG. It is very sad how someone like Mr. Mathis can take advantage of others like me. He knew I am mom of two children with special needs. He seemed knowledgeable about IEP's because he immediately asked me about it at the first consultation. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE HIRING ANY ATTORNEY. DO NOT BASED YOUR DECISIONS ON THE GOOD REVIEWS YOU SEE IN HERE AS I DID. Ask others that might have gone through similar situations. Good luck!

* I was able to post the screenshots of some of some conversations in the emails. After this attorney dropped both cases, I asked for him to send me copies of all motions he filed for my divorce. He said he mailed it to me which I never received. I went back to JAG and they requested that Mr. Mathis mailed them the forms directly. Mr. Jacob claimed he did but JAG did not received the forms. When I asked Mr. Jacob to email me the forms, he said I can just get them from the Court! I PAID him $5,000 I should have the right to get copies of documentations.

I had a not so great experience with my previous lawyer that left a lot of work to be done to fix major issues. When I hired Katie she was very attentive and straight to the point. She truly fought for me in both modifying a parenting plan and appealing a divorce decree. We were in a toxic fight with the opposing party just to fight but Katie maintained her professionalism and no nonsense attitude the entire time. Any question I had or issue that arose Katie was readily available and quick to respond, whether it was late at night or even on weekends I always had a response within 24 hours, usually within 5 hours. I am using this law office to help with the immigration of my husband from Morocco to here with me. I searched all over for the right lawyer and I found a wonderful one right here in Clarksville which is convenient when I need to bring him information or sign papers. Jacob Mathis had been extremely intelligent and honest with us. He answers all our questions no matter how small they may be. This office does more kinds of law than just immigration, but I dont have experience with that. Immigration is a lot of waiting and Mr Mathis understands it is frustrating and sometimes we are just asking questions to feel like we are doing something. He does not charge me by the hour which is wonderful. It was one up front cost for the whole process which makes it easier to know exactly what you will be spending instead of it being up in the air and you might owe a crazy amount later. I highly recommend Jacob Mathis for all your immigrations needs, and to check out the rest of the firm for any other legal matter.

Typically in a situation like ours, after years of an awful struggle with a custody litigation and you end up with the hand we were dealt, you might not leave a five star review. However, for us, Mathis was a great attorney we are very grateful for. It would take a novel for me to express what we went through and the kind of person we were up against. We have faced false police reports, false abuse claims, identity theft etc. I think in one year we had six court hearings for all false allegations. What I appreciate the most from Mathis is his honesty. He was so respectful and professional and even if we didn’t want to hear the news he was going to make sure we understood the situation. At the end of the day you can’t fix crazy you are responsible for yourself. Mathis did an amazing job representing us in such a difficult time. I felt sick to my stomach when we had to have our young children testify.
